The normal cycle of service packs going from EV (early visibility) to full release is 2 weeks. That being said, tomorrow service pack 4.0 for Solidworks 2008 will be a week late. Yesterday, Solidworks sent out this email addressing the delay:
SP4 EV required critical fixes. We are providing a hot-fix to update your SP4 EV installation and extending the EV period by 1 week. This hot-fix cannot be applied to any other version. Prior to installing 2008 SP4.0 Full you must remove this hot-fix. From Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs select SolidWorks HotFix 436338”.
To apply the hot-fix, download the file from the link: http://dl-ak.solidworks.com/nonsecure/hot-fix/436338/HotFix_436338.exe
Double-click the exe. The following files will be updated, all in C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\SolidWorks:
pskernel.dll, p4\pskernel.dll, sldasmu.dll, sldmodu.dll and slduiu.dll
The following SPRS have been fixed with this hot-fix:
SPRDescription
434293 'Group' doesn't exist in the menu when the sketch dimension is made a group.
436124 Patterned sub-assemblies specified as suppressed in design table, display as unsuppressed
437135 Modifying a mate leaves the screen blank until an explicit rebuild is done
423569 Rebuild Error: The Shell operation failed to complete, while doing force regen. in part file
394756 Rebuild error in Fillet feature: Failed to create fillet.
424119 Rebuild Error: Failed to create fillet; while doing 'Ctrl+Q' in Part file
427418 Failed to create fillet by Rebuild.
436338 Move Face: Cannot translate feature in z axis in this model regression 2008 sp01
It seems as if some unintended bugs jumped out once the EV got out into the hands of the community. To me, this is why the EV system is a good idea. I can see where a few of those issues could have impacted the work we do. My thanks go out to the people that participate in the EV program, you make the rest of our lives just a bit easier.
