Solidworks this week formally announced Solidworks 2008. After numerous sneak peaks at usergroup meetings, and in internet newsgroups, Monday morning marked the official availability of feature specific information. The easiest way to explain the upgrades in this release is by using the Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 analogy. That was a major User Interface change.
SW 2008 includes huge changes to the UI. While this certainly makes for a prettier product, is there any changes that actually make it a better product? Based on the amount of beta testing I have been able to do, there is quite a bit of stuff that makes the users interaction with the software easier. I can say that I can perform my normal tasks with significantly less mouse clicks, and without having to move my cursor off the graphics area as much.
Over the next week or two, I will try to highlight different areas of whats new, whats been improved, and what got ruined! So stay tuned, and for other 2008 insights, be sure to follow along with the other Solidworks Blogs.
